
Below you will find answers to many frequently-asked questions about the Searchable Campus Map Application. If you cannot find the information you are seeking, there is a link at the bottom of this page to contact us with your question.
How do I use this application?
Searching
Use the Search by pull-down menu to select the type of search. You can search by building name, address, facility ID and department name. Enter the search criteria in the box and click on Search. Results will be displayed to the right of the map. Click on the name of the building you are searching for, and the map will zoom in and highlight the building.
Navigation
Zoom - Choose either the Zoom in or Zoom out tool then click on the map to anchor the zoom location. Alternatively, use the zoom navigation bar to zoom in (+) or zoom out (-).
Additional detail may appear as you zoom in.
Recenter - Choose recenter then click on any location to place it in the center of the map display.
Identify - Click on any facility to identify it. The building will become selected and the name and occupying departments will be displayed to the right of the map.
Arrows on edge of map - Use these arrows to navigate your map display in any direction.
How do I locate specific departments at Stanford?
Use the Search by pull-down menu to select "Department" and type the name of the department you are looking for in the text box. Click on Search. The names of all buildings containing the text-string you entered will be displayed to the right of the map. Select the building you are looking for by clicking on the link, and the map will zoom in and highlight the building.
The Campus-map application relies on the in the University's organizational hierarchy for department information. While the short description will display, you can search on both the 10-character and the longer description. Campus-map will find a department, as long as at least one room in the building has been properly coded iSpace, the tool department space coordinators use to update the space system of record.
How do I search for a location by an address?
Use the Search by pull-down menu to select "Address" and type in the address (or partial address) you are looking for in the text box. Click o Search. All buildings that match the search criteria will be displayed to the right of the map. Select the building you are looking for by clicking on the link, and the map will zoom in and highlight the building.
What do I do if I cannot find what I am looking for?
First, try narrowing your search. Instead of searching for Tresidder Union, try Tresidder. The full name is actually Tresidder Memorial Union which is why it is not found.
Or try Admission instead of Admissions for the department search.

What if a picture is not displayed for my building?
Updating pictures for the buildings is an ongoing undertaking by Maps and Records. If you would like to submit a photograph(jpg format) for your building, please file a helpSU.
Who maintains this information?
campusmap.stanford.edu is maintained by Facilities Operations, Maps and Records. Department information is updated nightly and reflects information in iSpace, the system of record for space. The Stanford map is updated on a quarterly basis.

The Campus Map Application was designed and developed by Facilities Operations, Maps and Records http://maps.stanford.edu. It is based on MapGuide, a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology by Autodesk.
Online Mapping Solutions LLC also supported the implementation and developed several search and display features.
